VGM Lounge has started a shared blog that members can contribute to. The types of posts we are looking for are:
OST Releases: If you find a new VGM release that you think the world should hear, post a quick summary.
OST Reviews: If you would like to do a more indepth review of a VGM OST (new release or old) you are super encourage to do so.
VGM News: Maybe you have some great VGM news you think might be of interest to the community, that would be cool too.
Process of becoming a contributor:
Selection criteria: All members are welcome to join as contributors, but we want the content to be reasonable, so if you are not providing content suitable for the site you will be removed. Also, if we ever get too many contributors, preference will be given to members that contribute regularly. You will also need to follow the guidelines below, failure to do so will also result in your invite being revoked.
We are using Googles Blogger as its free, works well and we can have up to 100 contributors all posting to our VGML Blog, which is pretty cool. So the first thing you will need is to create yourself a Blogger account. You will need a Google account for this. Once you are setup, DM dGecko with your accounts email address so you can be invited to join the Blog. Each contributor will have their own Blogger account, and by being invited to the VGML Blog you will be able to post stories there. (Tip: When you join Blogger you don't have to create your own blog, you can skip that step when joining, and you can still post to the VGML Blog after you are invited. Make sure you use your Discord name for your blog account name as the writers are all displayed on the VGML blog, so you are directly credited for your writing.
When posting a blog post only the first image or video will get posted to the Discord, so make sure your first image is representative of the OST. You can have as many links as you want in a post. Only the first 250 characters will be posted to Discord with a [read more] link to the blog site.
I tried a couple of layouts and I think posting you text first works best, and and then use the image link option to link to an existing image online, or the video link to YouTube to link to a video.
On the blog home page the image will always appear at the top, even if you insert it at the end of story. When you read the full story it will display in the layout as you posted it.
When the story gets posted into Discord, if you have the image at the top it will leave a bit of blank space, so the layout looks better with the text first and the image or video later. Or put some text, then the image, then more text and finish with a video at the end. The video will embed on the blog/website but not on Discord sadly, so you can put a short url to the video at the bottom of the post as well if you like.
Remember to make links into proper hyperlinks that open in a new window.
To include an image from another source use the link image by URL option.
To include a video, link to the YouTube video source.
Use Labels when posting to help group the types of stories together and be consistent with your story titles as well.
